   Websites for Students

When I begin setting up this page, I was trying to find a place that

I could list ALL of the great websites that I use.  Although I had me

in mind when I set it up, it became a great resource students, parents,

and other teachers.  Hope you find what you're looking for.

(NOTE:  I try to keep this page updated, but if you come

across any links that are broken.  Please let me know.)

 

 

Reading Rules!!

www.thinkcentral.com This is Harcourt's website.  Parents can access just about everything that goes with our new reading series.

http://www.tumblebooks.com/library/asp/home_tumblebooks.asp This site has of e-books.  You can have the e-book reader read the book, or turn off the sound to have students read the book themselves.

www.starfall.com Excellent site for the emergent readers.

http://pbskids.org/lions/ This site has games, stories, and video clips that are great for the beginning reader. Check out the PBS Kids site while you are there.

http://pbskids.org/wordgirl/ Another PBS site is Word Girl.  There are lots of opportunities to practice and enhance your child's vocabulary.  Another great site is the PBS Reading Rainbow section.

http://www.kiddonet.com/gb/flash/phonics/Intro.html This is a great site for practicing and reinforcing the initial sounds. 

Story Place This website has some cute stories that the studnet could access.  I loved the section "Book Hive."  It had a great sections where students could create their own story.

 KidZone --- Grade 1  This site had phonics activities as well as letter recognition activities.  It also had a section for Kindergarten review.  Those activities would be a great way to begin the First grade year.  There are pages that cover from pre-school to fifth grade.

Carl's Corner  Here you will find lots of reading activities.  I especially liked the alphabet sites.  They also have a list of INTERVENTION links.  

http://www.seussville.com/ Our students love Dr. Seuss books.  Check out the official "Seuss" website for lots of fun reading activities.

ReadWriteThink This is the link to the Read Write Think Student Materials.  It has graphic organizers and activities for the beginning reading as well as for a more experienced reader.

http://teacher.scholastic.com/activities/scrapbook/ This is a cute activity for analyzing characters.

http://www.scholastic.com/clifford/ Reading and writing activities featuring Clifford the Big Red Dog.

http://www.makinglearningfun.com/index.html This site has a variety of activities.  I put it under my reading because they have some good examples when teaching "purposes of author."

http://www.kidsreads.com/ This site has lots of information about authors, books, etc. It has book reviews, excerpts from books, author pages.  It seems to be geared for the older students --- maybe 3rd grade and up.  I want to check back here later because it has a lot of pages that say "coming soon."

 Math Magic

is an interactive site to practice counting tally marks.

 KidZone --- Grade 1  Notice that I listed this site in both the math and reading sections.  It also had a section for Kindergarten review.  Those activities would be a great way to begin the First grade year.  There are pages that cover from pre-school to fifth grade.

Funschool  The funschool site had a lot of activities for kids of all ages.  The students will be learning without even realizing it.  They also had a GREAT section for the Pre-K students.

Language and Grammar

http://www.weatherwizkids.com/index.htm This is my favorite site when it comes to teaching students about the weather.  It's kid friendly and easy to use.

http://www.vrml.k12.la.us/resources/parentresources.htm This is the Parent Resource page from Vermllion Parish Schools.  Some of the links are just for parents in that parish, but they have other links that would be helpful to all parents.

Reading Aloud With Your Child  This website discusses the importance of reading aloud with your child. It has suggestions for reading to children from birth to teen years.

http://www.gomath.com/ Another site to help with math.  They have a whole lot of links to click if all of those Math FORMULAS are confusing you.

http://www.k12science.org/askanexpert.html Click on this site and it will bring you to a page with links to a lot of experts.  You can ask a scientist, an astronaut, a biologist, and a lot more.
